From the Sea Salt, Anglesey collection, 2023

Materials: These pieces are thrown in a blend of stoneware and wild clay from the landslip below my studio and are finished with three glazes. The first glaze uses a chalky residue that’s a byproduct of washing Halen Môn’s beautiful salt flakes. The brine that the sea salt is washed in is dehydrated and turned into a concentrated paste. The second is a seaweed ash glaze using seaweed from the Menai Strait from which Halen Môn source their salt water. The third is a mussel shell matte glaze made from shells that are washed onto the beach after filtering the saltwater.

Techniques: All pieces are hand-thrown and hand-forged. The glaze is a variation of the recipe developed during Chloé’s Masters at the Royal College of Art in collaboration with the restaurant ‘Sosban & the Old Butchers’ (also on Anglesey) and Halen Môn.
